In excellent, near mint condition showing mainly just a storage age and very light use. The lamb's fur is as good as new, without any wear or shedding. The leather on the top is pristine. The visor is completely free of the usual scuffs and still shows a "healthy" gloss. Both the interior and exterior of the hat are immaculately clean; there is only a tiny amount of wear on the brim that is hard to spot even at close inspection.
The use of this cap was restricted by Soviet naval regulations exclusively to the rank of Captain 1st cl. (Kapitan Pervogo Ranga). This
sets it apart from the similar hat with the embroidered visor used by admirals - or the more conventional-looking visorless ushankas in
less expensive dyed lamb's fur used by all the lower ranking officers in the Soviet Navy. For that reason, this particular type of hat is hard
to find, especially in excellent condition.
