There is only a mild tarnish to the tips of the starburst, not detractive and actually adding character. A good amount of the original gilt finish is visible in recessed areas of the starburst and on the reverse under the pin. Note that at least in theory, this piece may be considered the 1st class of the order: the difference between the 1st and 3rd class was only in the amount of gold finish that would usually rub off in any case with the passage of time. A very impressive piece.

This order was usually issued to Securitate state security officers and therefore commonly known as "Order of Securitate".
