I hope you will enjoy turning the pages of this book now and then and remember the days when you lived in Riga". The dedication is signed and dated September 1995.

The album is in excellent condition. Apart from an inch-long tear to the dust jacket and a very faint water stain at the bottom of the front cover board, the album is in great condition showing only barely noticeable age toning to the internal pages, not detractive in the slightest.

Vilhelms Purvitis (1872 - 1945) was a prominent Latvian artist, a leading force in creating, educating and promoting the national Latvian school of art. But his fame as a painter stems in his talent and love of painting the nature of his country. When you look at his artwork, you cannot help admiring the mastery with which he captures the elusive and understated pearlescent light typical of Nature in high latitudes.
