In brass gilt and enamels; medallion is 26.0 mm wide. The reverse of the suspension has early style mint mark "MMD" of the Moscow Mint. Excellent condition.

The title of People's Artist of Moldavian SSR was instituted in 1955. The medal was established and manufactured much later, apparently during the 70s, and at that time back-issued to all surviving holders of the title. The exact number of issues is currently unknown, but it must have been extremely small considering the relatively small population of this Soviet republic.
