Edged Weapons of the Kuban Cossacks, Boris Frolov,
Krasnodar, 319 pp, Russian language.
Large 8 1/2" x 11 5/8" format. Excellent and comprehensive
photo reference of Cossack weaponry.
There were over twenty different "hosts" of Cossacks in
Imperial Russia and those from the Kuban region of Southern
Russia were among the most important. This heavily illustrated
book explores the weaponry favored by this group of mounted
warriors: sabres, shashkas, kindjals, firearms, etc. There is
also a selection of the flags and banners associated with the
Kuban cossacks. The photography throughout is exceptional as
is the selection of period photographs of the weapons in wear.
If you were to own only one book about the cossacks, this
would be the one to choose. Highly recommended.
