Murmansk Steamship Company Table Medal Commemorating Ice Breaker Rossiya Reaching the North Pole, 1990.
In solid bronze, approx. 60 mm wide, 5 mm thick, and weighing 105 g. The obverse features а polar bear under the curtains of Aurora Borealis, the bear being on the official logo of the company, albeit in profile. The reverse celebrates the 1990 voyage of one of the company's nuclear-powered icebreakers, the Rossiya, which was the first to deliver a group of foreign tourists to the North Pole, thus opening the era of Arctic tourism.
In excellent condition, no significant wear on any surface, just an occasional tiny nick to the edge of the rim, barely visible with the naked eye. The artwork is finely sculpted and is done in sharp relief.
Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
