M1947 Visor Hat of a Senior or Mid-Level Officer of the Coal Mining Industry, 1947 - 1954.

The crown is dark blue gabardine with bright blue piping along the upper and lower edges; black velvet band. Features a characteristically early compact shape of the crown and an early, WW2-style rectangular visor. The crossed hammers hat badge representing the Ministry of Coal Mines is in brass. The hat comes complete with the very scarce regulations "rosette" cockade on the crown, in brass with black enamel on the background, approx. 26 mm wide. Note that the cockade is of the earliest style, in brass as opposed to aluminum, and has a very unusual vertical orientation of the attachment prongs. The chin cord is in lacquered oilcloth. The cloth sweat diamond has a manufacturer's logo which is completely illegible due to wear and sweat stains. The size is not marked (or possibly worn off) but the hat will fit an approximately size 57 head (roughly US size 7 1/8 / Medium).

Very good to excellent condition. The crown and band are completely free of moth damage. There is a single spot on the underside of the crown near the right temple where a small piece of blue gabardine fabric is torn, but because it is covered by the overhanging part of the crown, it will be completely hidden from view when the hat is displayed by itself or on a mannequin head. The hat has kept its shape perfectly over the years; the visor is tightly attached and intact, not warped as is often the case. The exterior is perfectly clean. The liner, despite sweat staining, is generally well-preserved and free of excessive wear. The oilcloth sweat band is likewise in excellent shape.

A very rare cap of a relatively short-lived Stalin-era model. It is almost impossible to find an example as complete and well-preserved as the onе offered here.
