East Germany, Table Medal in Commemoration of the Seelow Heights Battle in April 1945, circa 1950s-70s.

In silvered brass, measures 50 mm wide, weighs approx. 53 g. The obverse features a finely sculpted bas-relief of the monument at Seelow, showing a Soviet soldier with his hand on the turret of a defeated German tank, and guns in the background. The reverse has an inscription in raised relief, reading "Liberation Memorial on the Seelow Heights."

In excellent condition. Mild patina accents the high relief of the artwork. Minimal scuffing to the metal enhances the air of age and authenticity of the medal.

Seelow Heights are often called "scene of the beginning of the end for Berlin and the Reich." The Battle of the Seelow Heights was a decisive, high-casualty Soviet victory that shattered the last major German line of defense before Berlin. The monument was created by Soviet sculptor Lev Korbel and erected in November 1945. The memorial, which includes a cemetery and museum, grew around the monument over the years.
