In brass, measures 32 mm wide. The lettering on the obverse reads "For Outstanding Services." Both the medallion and suspension are in excellent condition; the pin attachment is clean and fully functional.

The medal (original name "Medaille für ausgezeichnete Leistungen in den bewaffneten Organen des Ministeriums des Innern") was instituted on 4 June 1959, in single class. Awarded for excellent performance of tasks directed at strengthening and consolidation of the GDR.
