East Germany, Police Honor Medal with Ribbon Bar, late 1970s.
Brass gilt, aluminum, enamels. The medallion measures 36 mm wide. The inscription at the bottom of the obverse reads "For Service to the People". The ribbon bar has a miniature approximation of the medallion in the middle. The original presentation box has black plastic bottom lined with light foam rubber inside, the lid is in Plexiglas.
The medal and ribbon bar are in near mint condition, free of any visible wear. The lid of the box has a crack and is moderately scuffed, but the scuffing does not obscure the medal inside.
The medal (original name "Ehrenzeichen der Deutschen Volkspolizei", Decorations of the German People's Police) was instituted on 1 June 1949 in single class. It was awarded for outstanding achievements, personal bravery, and selfless dedication.
