East Germany, Order of the Banner of Labor 2nd cl., circa mid-1970s-80s. in original box of earlier issue, circa 1960s-70s.

Brass gilt, enamels. The medallion measures 52.4 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 35.8 mm in width, weighs 22.3 g. The gilded bar at the top of the suspension and on the ribbon bar shows Roman numeral "II" for 2nd class. The name of the order, BANNER DER ARBEIT, is in raised relief on the enameled banner. The presentation box has black plastic bottom; the lid is in Plexiglas. The fitted space for the medal and ribbon bar is lined with burgundy short-nap velvet.

The medallion, suspension, and ribbon bar are in excellent condition. Both pin attachments are clean and fully functional. The lid of the box is lightly scuffed, the scuffing does not obscure the medal inside.

The Banner of Labor (original name "Banner der Arbeit") was instituted on 4 August 1954 in one class. On 8 August 1974, it was divided into three classes. The 1st class was the highest, and each class included a cash award. The order was awarded to individuals and collectives for excellent and long-standing service in strengthening the GDR, especially for outstanding achievements in national economy.
