Army (Land Forces) General Walking-Out Dress Visor Hat, dated 1971.

In light gray wool gabardine with red piping and band, gold embroidery on the band, and gold filigree chin cord. The crown is of a relatively early style, not as small as the hats from the 50s-60s, but noticeably smaller than the oversized crowns of the general hats from the 80s. The visor is in hard plastic with polished top and matte underside, as correct for the hats of early vintage. Blue silk tape threads through the general quality leather sweatband to allow a customized fit. The two-piece hat badge is of the type specific to generals. The teardrop-shaped sweat label shows the early TSP Moscow maker's mark, a 71 date of manufacture, and a size 58 (equivalent of US size 7 ¼ - Large).

The hat is in excellent condition. Unlike vast majority of hats of this vintage, it is completely free of mothing. There are some minor very faint marks to the top of the crown that are neither very noticeable nor detractive and may clean off, no significant soiling or stains. The interior is perfectly clean. Overall, this is an exceptionally well-preserved early example of the less common general hat for the walking-out dress uniform. It is very hard to find in both a relatively large size and premium condition.
