East Germany, Commemorative Medal issued by the Ministry of State Security, aka Stasi, on Occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Felix Dzerzhinsky Guards Regiment, dated 1984, in original fitted presentation box.

The medal is in silvered bronze, measures 40.1 mm wide, weighs 27.9 g. The obverse features a raised profile of Felix Dzerzhinsky, a native of Poland, one of Lenin's closest allies and the chief architect of the Soviet Secret Police (Cheka / OGPU). The reverse has a raised inscription running along the rim, reading "Guards Regiment "Felix Dzerzhinsky", Berlin, MfS." MfS is the German abbreviation for "Ministerium fur Staatssicherheit", Ministry of State Security, colloquially known as "Stasi."

The medal is in superb, outstanding condition on both sides.

The original fitted box is in cardboard laminated in leather-textured paper. The lid is lined with champagne-colored fabric inside. The fitted space in the bottom part of the box is finished in dark-blue short-nap velvet. The typewritten dedication glued to the lining of the lid reads "For Faithful Service in the Berlin Guards Regiment, State Security." The dedication is dated 7 October 1984 and has the ink stamp of the Ministry of State Security.

The box is in very good to excellent condition, showing just tiny scuffs to the corners and minimal storage wear to the laminate on the lid and the bottom. The lower half of the strip of paper in the back, probably meant to reinforce the fabric hinge of the box, has separated from it. Easily and quickly repairable, if desired.

Established in November 1954 as the paramilitary wing of the East German Ministry for State Security, the regiment, headquartered in Aldershof, East Berlin, celebrated its 30th anniversary in 1984.
