In silver-plated brass; measures 46.9 mm in height, 49.2 mm in width; weighs 27.2 g not including the wing nut. Features a beautiful high- relief depiction of a WW2 partisan holding a Soviet-made PPSh submachine gun with the inscription "CS PARTIZAN" in the upper left. Stamped serial number "234" to the reverse.

In outstanding, excellent condition. The details are perfect and crisp; the silver plating is pristine, creating the impression that the badge is made of solid silver. Very attractive even patina throughout. The screw post is of full length, over 9 mm, and although slightly bent, remains sound and fully functional. The screw includes the original wing nut and washer.

The cardboard case of issue measures approx. 11 x 8.5 cm. It is wrapped in brown oilcloth and has an internal pad wrapped in black velvet with a fitted nest for the badge. The internal pad of the lid is loose but will stay in place if undisturbed (it should be very easy to glue it back to the lid if desired, but this seems unnecessary). The box is in otherwise perfect condition, completely sound and showing no soiling or significant wear. The pushbutton closure works well.

The award was established soon after the war, in 1946. Its dynamic design and precise execution make it a real standout - possibly the best- looking of the partisan awards of all the East Bloc / Communist countries. Its first, serial-numbered version is far more scarce than the unnumbered type (all the examples we have observed had a serial number in the two to mid-three-digit range, so it stands to reason that no more than a few hundred of the numbered version were ever issued).
