Set of 16 Photo Postcards Presenting ARTEK Young Pioneers Summer Camp Complex in Crimea, 1976.
The postcards measure 8 ¼" x 3 ½", published by the PLANETA Publishing House, circulation 300,000. Each postcard contains two color photos propagandizing the blissful pastimes and activities in Artek, a palatial complex of five summer camps for the Lenin's Young Pioneers organization on the Crimean shore of the Black Sea. Among hundreds, perhaps thousands of Young Pioneer summer camps across the Soviet Union, there was only one Artek, the Showboat of them all. To be awarded with a month-long stay in Artek was the dream of each and every schoolkid of the Young Pioneer age (10 - 14 years old). Two main roads let to Artek: winning the lottery of a quota representing a Soviet republic, or having your daddy or mommy high enough in the Communist Party or Soviet Government apparatus. Plus, a sprinkle of kids from other communist countries to show off the international brotherhood of socialism.
The inside of the cover has an essay with official propaganda of the unforgettable experience of Artek and the index of the 16 cards of the set.
In excellent condition. The cover shows minor scuffs, bumps, and scratches, visible mostly only when tilting the cover to reflect a bright light. The postcards are pristine.
