Brass, German silver, enamels, lacquer; riveted 3-piece construction; 49.9 x 28.6 mm; weighs 19.7 g without the screw plate. Shows a round mint mark of the Moscow Mint on the reverse. Quality and design are similar to the "60th Anniversary" badge but without the figure of a border guard.

Like the similar 50th and 60th anniversary awards, the badge was issued to active-duty KGB officers and some of the high-ranking VIP retirees. Most went to Border Guards (who were under the KGB command and were considered KGB servicemen), but some were also awarded to the "mainstream" KGB operatives. This was exclusively an officer's award: these badges were never issued to lower ranking KGB servicemen, civilian employees, common informers etc.
