Russian February Revolution Jetton, by Kuchkin Factory, February - November 1917.

In brass, 32.9 mm tall (incl. eyelet), 25.9 mm wide. The complex shape is less common than the more typical round jettons. The obverse is dominated by a sitting female figure; her chair is inscribed "Free Russia" whereas the flag she is holding in the right hand has the motto "Long Live the Democratic Republic!" To the left of the figure of Russia is a worker breaking her chains on an anvil. A curious feature of this jetton is the maritime motif in the lower right consisting of an anchor, heart and cross. This possibly indicates that the jetton was intended for sailors or port workers. The reverse shows the 1917 date, intricate florals, and the manufacturer's logo "D. Kuchkin Factory, Moscow".

The jetton is in outstanding, excellent condition, very rare for a jetton from the Provisional Government period. The raised artwork is exceptionally well-preserved and crisp, essentially pristine. There is a minuscule amount of pitting but no wear of any kind visible to the naked eye. Aside from a few very tiny spots of tarnish, mostly on the reverse, the toning to the brass is very uniform and attractive. The connecting links are a recent addition. To reiterate, the condition of this piece is nothing short of extraordinary - literally impossible to upgrade!

Please note, the penny in our photo is for size reference.
