Bulgaria, Order of the Red Banner of Labor, circa 1960s-70s.
Brass gilt, enamels. The medallion measures 44.1 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 35.6 mm wide, of massive two-piece construction. Overall design of the decoration resembles its Soviet counterpart, with the requisite red star, red banner, hammer & sickle emblem and the cogwheel. The white Cyrillic letters НРБ on the banner are the abbreviation for the People's Republic of Bulgaria.
This particular specimen is one of the older pieces: it features "hot baked" enamels on the central part of the medallion and in particular on the banner that are of much nicer quality than more recent issues. The "cold" enamel on the red star is original and correct for this version of the award. The suspension device is similar to the Soviet model, as opposed to the somewhat smaller Bulgarian-style suspension used on the later issues.
In excellent condition. There are some internal imperfections in the red enamel on the banner that appear to be factory flaws, not a result of damage. The gilt finish is perfect. The eyelet is bent slightly forward but remains sound and fully functional. Comes with a nicely preserved old, probably original ribbon.
