The size is standard 3 ½" x 5 ½", postally unused and unmarked. The cabinet photo presents a full standing portrait of a young man in the Imperial Russian Army uniform with two stripes of a sergeant on the shoulder boards. The verso is inscribed in Latvian, loosely translated as "Remember from the past" and dated 24 October 1916.

In very good to excellent condition. The image is in perfectly sharp focus, providing an excellent opportunity to have a close-up look at the uniform, cockade, and belt buckle. The horizontal crease running at the NCO's knee height is not very obvious when looking at a normal viewing angle and not detractive. The verso shows mild foxing and a couple of small stains, not obscuring any printed or handwritten text.
