Special-Issue Government Postal Cover Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Moscow - Far East non-stop flight by an all-female crew, 1988.
The size is 6 ½" x 4 ½", with a pre-printed postal stamp. Postally unused, published by the Ministry of Communications of the USSR, circulation unknown. The pre-printed special-issue commemorative postal stamp features the portraits of the three young women, V. Grizodubova, P. Osipenko, and M. Raskova, who made a non-stop flight from Moscow to the Soviet Far East, having covered 6,450 km (4,008 milies) in 26 hours and 29 minutes, setting a world record for women. Later, during the Patriotic War, Raskova formed and led the famous all-women light bomber regiment whose nighttime bombing raids earned them the moniker The Night Witches.
