Special-Issue Government Postal Cover Commemoration the 40th Anniversary of Formation of the French Normandie-Nieman Fighter Aviation Regiment during WW2, 1982.
The size is 6 ½" x 4 ½", with a pre-printed postal stamp. Postally unused, published by the Ministry of Communications of the USSR, circulation unknown. The special-issue postal stamp features all the symbols of the Normandie-Nieman Air Force Regiment: the Spasskaya Clock Tower of the Moscow Kremlin, the Eiffel Tower of Paris, and the Order of the Patriotic War. In March of 1942, the Free France National Committee offered the Soviet government to send a group of French pilots and avia mechanics to fight against the Nazi Germany. It was this offer and seventeen French pilots sent to the Soviet Union that soon gave birth to the famous Normandie-Nieman Fighter Regiment which fought in WW2 as part of the Soviet Air Force.
