Silver gilt, enamel; 52.0 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 44.9 mm in width. The obverse center medallion features a right-facing portrait of Bernardo O'Higgins, encircled in a ring inscribed BERNARD O'HIGGINS CHILE. The reverse is plain. The neck ribbon is in moiré silk, 32 cm long with silk ties.

In very fine condition: slight wear to the high points of the portrait, minor loss of gilt to the end of the 6 o'clock arm of the star, and to parts of some of the ball tips. The ribbon is wear-free and completely clean.

The Order of Bernardo O'Higgins is Chile's highest civilian honor for foreigners, awarded for outstanding service in education, arts, science, and social cooperation. It was created in 1956 as an extension of the Order of Merit of Chile and promoted to its own order status in 1967.
