Government Postal Cover Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Brusilov's Arctic Expedition on the St. Anna Schooner, 1982.

The size is 6 ½" x 4 ½", with a pre-printed postal stamp. Postally unused, published by the Ministry of Communications of the USSR, circulation unknown. The artist's name, A. Kalashnikov, is printed on the lower flap of the verso. The artwork celebrates the daring expedition led by Georgiy Brusilov, an Imperial Russian Naval officer, veteran of the Russo-Japanese war and Arctic explorer, on the steam-powered schooner St. Anna with the goal to go the entire length of the Transpolar Sea Route under the Russian flag. The expedition started out in 1912, soon got mired in ice, drifted for about 1.5 years until a group of 11 explorers went south on foot (only two survived). The fate of the remaining 13 members of the expedition, as well as the schooner, remains unknown.

In excellent condition.
