Postal cover commemorating centennial of V. Mickevicius-Kapsukas, Lithuanian SSR, canceled with 1st Day stamp, 1980.
The size is 6 ¼" x 4 ½", postally unused, published by the Ministry of Communications of the Lithuanian SSR, circulation unknown. The special-issue postal stamp commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Vilnius University, named after Mickevicius-Kapsukas, is canceled with the First Day stamp issued by the Vilnius Post Office, dated 7 April 1980. The artwork on the left side of the obverse was done by M. Cepukiene; the artist's name is printed on the bottom flap on the verso. Vincas Mickevicius-Kapsukas (1880 - 1935) was a communist political activist, publicist and revolutionary, the first Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars of the Lithuanian SSR in 1918-1919.
In very good to excellent condition. The paper is very lightly wrinkled; the bottom corners have minor creases. None of the wear is very obvious or detractive. Quite uncommonly for Soviet-era postal covers, this one has security tints.
