12 April is celebrated as Cosmonautics Day in the (former) Soviet Union and some other post-Soviet states. In 2011 however, the UN General Assembly declared it as the International Day of Human Space Flight. Note however, that the lettering "Worldwide Day of Aviation and Cosmonautics" under the graphics on the left panel of the obverse was made in 1980, 31 years before the day became officially international.
