First Day Cover celebrating the launch of the Luna-4 Automated Interplanetary Station, April 1963.

The size is 6 ½" x 3 ¾", the commemorative postal stamp shows the lettering "Earth - Moon, 2 April 1963." The stamp is canceled by an uncommon Moscow International Post Office cancel dated 2 April 1963, the date of the launch of the Luna-4 automated interplanetary station which was supposed to make a soft landing on the Moon but missed it by 8,500 km (5,283 miles) due to flight control issues and continued its trek on a heliocentric orbit. The artwork on the left side of the obverse shows an unconventional "First Day" designation, shaped as a schematic drawing of a landing capsule with the words "First Day" in four languages as opposed to the usual Russian and French. The verso is unmarked.

In excellent condition, very clean and wear-free.
