First Day Cover Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the First Manned Space Flight, 1981.

Uncommon format, sized 7 ½" x 4 ¾". The verso is unmarked, missing the usual information about the publisher, year, etc. The obverse features a set of five special-edition postal stamps celebrating the flight of cosmonauts L. Popov and V. Ryumin and their 185-day-long stay on board the orbital station Salyut-6. Uncommonly, the stamp in the middle lists the main events that took place during those 185 days, namely four couplings with other Soviet spacecraft, including the Soyuz-38 piloted by a Soviet and a Cuban cosmonaut as part of the Soviet Interkosmos program which took into space nationals of some Soviet-friendly countries. The stamps are canceled by the First Day stamp issued by the Kaluga Post Office and dated 12 April 1981, the anniversary of Gagarin's flight.

In excellent condition: minimal wear to the top and side edges, barely noticeable and not detractive.
