Special-edition Postal Cover with the 1st Day Cancel Commemorating the 1990 Japan-Soviet Space Flight, 1990.

The size is 6 ¼" x 4 ½", postally unused, published by the Soviet Union of Philatelists, circulation 50,000, quite small by Soviet standards. The special postal stamp commemorates the Soyuz TM-11 mission which launched on 2 December 1990, and carried the first Japanese person, journalist Toyohiro Akiyama who stayed for a week on the Soviet Mir space station, broadcasting live from space for TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System). The stamp is canceled with the First Day stamp issued by Zvezdnyy Gorodok ("Star City"), the cosmonaut training center in Moscow suburbs. The cancel is dated 2 December 1990, the date of the launch. The artwork on the left panel of the obverse was created by O. Fomicheva, and features the "Vitruvian Man," a drawing ascribed to Leonardo Da Vinci, based on the Roman architect Vitruvius' writing on ideal human proportions.

In near-mint condition.
