Special-issue Government Postcard commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Ilyushin Aircraft Design Bureau, artist identified on obverse, 1983.
The size is continental standard 6" x 4", postally unused, published by the Ministry of Communications of the USSR, circulation 500,000. The pre-printed special-edition postal stamp features Ilyushin's portrait and his famous WW2 ground-attack Il-2 airplane, which the Nazis dubbed the "Black Death" ("Schwartzer Tod") for the immense destruction inflicted by Il-2s on the Eastern Front. The artwork in the left panel of the obverse shows Ilyushin's modern-day airliners: Il-86 (upper left), Il-76 under it, and Il-62 in the background. The artist's name, A. Aksamit, is printed along the divider. The verso is unmarked.
