In brass and enamels; medallion measures 34.0 mm in height incl. eyelet, 29.3 mm in width; weighs 13.9 g not including the suspension and connecting link; overall weight with suspension is 21.1 g. This is the first version of the medal featuring a separate eyelet soldered to the medallion. Note also the oval-shaped backplate holding the attachment pin of the suspension, unlike the rectangular back plate of the later issues.

Very fine to excellent condition. The enamel on the suspension device has a couple of minuscule, barely noticeable surface flakes at the lower edge, otherwise essentially perfect, free of the usual chips, rubbing or scratches. There are few dings to the center medallion but its raised details are perfect and crisp. The original "gilt" mint luster is well-preserved and bright in recessed areas on both sides. There is an attractive mild patina to the brass but no significant oxidation or blemishes.

Overall, a really nice example of the early version of the Motherhood Medal.
