Postcard Assault on the Kremlin, Bolshevik revolution in Moscow, artist identified on verso, 1957.

The size is continental standard 6" x 4", postally unused and unmarked, published by IZOGIZ, the State Visual Arts Publishing House, circulation 75,000, rather small by Soviet standards. The name of the artist, D. Shmarinov, is printed in the lower left-hand corner on the verso. The artwork is an offset print of his painting depicting a scene from a major event in the 1917 Bolshevik armed uprising which remained strangely underemphasized, almost avoided: the seizure of power in Moscow. Was it because it lasted an entire week (25 Oct. - 2 Nov.), not as spectacular as an almost-overnight victory in Petrograd? Or was it because the Bolshevik commandant of the Kremlin surrendered the Kremlin to the anti-Bolshevik cadets three days after it had been stormed and seized? Or because the Bolsheviks had to agree to a truce, only to break it as soon as breaking it was to their advantage? A fascinating facet of the October Revolution for a history buff to research deeper!

In excellent condition: the paper is attractively and mildly age-toned, storage wear is minimal, almost nonexistent.
