Postcard / Invitation to the closing ceremony of the 43rd USSR chess tournament in Yerevan, Armenian SSR, 1975.
In folder format measuring 6 ½" x 4" when closed, printed on heavy-stock coated paper. The front cover features the emblem of the tournament, with its title, "USSR Chess Tournament," in Armenian and Russian, surrounding the graphic, and its place and year, "Yerevan 75." Inside, the unissued invitation states that the Organizing Committee of the 43rd USSR Chess Tournament welcomes the holder of the invitation to participate in the closing ceremony of the tournament which will take place on 25 December in the Grand Hall of the Armenian Philharmonic.
In very good to excellent condition. The front cover shows an old vertical crease, long-since-flattened-out, and minimal storage wear. The back cover is slightly soiled and has a couple of small stains. The inside is near-pristine.
The 43rd Tournament was a great event for Armenian chess enthusiasts because its winner was an Armenian grandmaster, Tigran Petrosyan, 9th world champion, four times champion of the Soviet Union, chess theoretician, founder and editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine "64", the list of his achievements in chess goes on.
