Excellent Railroad Builder badge, circa mid-1940s.

Brass, enamels; measures 38.7 mm tall from the bottom to the highest point of the banner, not including the flagpole finial, 26.9 mm wide; weighs 12.2 g without the screw plate. Relatively early variation, featuring well-defined relief to the oval portion. The screw post is characteristically thick, measuring approx. 3.6-3.7 mm in diameter.

Excellent condition. The enamel shows magnificent luster and appears perfect to the unaided eye. There is a microscopic chip in the upper left corner that can be found with a 10x loupe but completely invisible without magnification (it is as likely to be a factory imperfection rather as a result of wear). The details of the artwork are perfect and extremely crisp. Some of the original gilt finish is visible in the recessed areas of the wreath. The silver plating on the reverse is pristine. The screw post is full length, approx. 12.5 mm, and includes an original WW2-era screw plate maker-marked "NKPS Sh.M. Z" (Narkomat of Railroad Transportation, Mechanical Stamping Factory").

The Excellent Railroad Builder badge is among the hardest to find among the Soviet WW2 railroad proficiency series (1943-57).
