Heroic Feat of Colonel Komarov, WW1 lithographic poster, artist signed and dated, 1914.

Medium size lithographic print measuring 20" x 15", lithography by F. Shauer and V. Smirkovsky, Odessa. Published by the Kozman Publishing House, Odessa. Marked "permitted by military censor" in the lower left-hand corner. The artist, E. Fialkovsky, put his hand signature in the lower left-hand corner of the image, together with the location and date, Odessa, 1914. The caption under the image reads "Skirmish near Eydtkuhnen. The unit of Colonel Komarov was pursuing the enemy. The Russian banner bearer fell. Colonel Komarov snatched the banner from the hands of the dying banner bearer and, with the cry "Forward, lads, all on me!" rushed into attack. The Germans lost many killed and wounded, and were thrown far beyond Eydtkuhnen and Stalluponen. Komarov was killed in action."

In excellent condition: minimal wear to the margin, mostly slight wrinkles and small stains along the bottom edge. None of the wear reaches even the captions.

To put this WW1 episode on the map, Eydtkuhnen, then part of East Prussia, was an important border town, a crossing between Russia and Germany. In present day, it is known as Chernyshevskoye, a settlement in Kaliningrad Region, Russia, not far from Lithuania. Stalluponen is a location in present-day Lithuania. The Battle of Stalluponen, fought by a corps of the German 8th Army against Russian general Rennenkampf's 1st Army on August 17, 1914, was the first action on the Eastern Front of WW1.

Please note that the 1-ft. ruler in our photo is for size reference.
