Award Document for the Badge for Active Work in the DOSAAF, issued to Artur Agiton, 3 January 1960.
Booklet in oilcloth-wrapped hard cover, 4" x 3". The front cover features the full name of the DOSAAF, "Volunteer Society for Assistance to the Army, Air Force, and Navy", and in larger letters, "Certificate for the breast badge For Active Work. The document certified that the Presidium of the Republican Committee of the DOSAAF of the Ukrainian SSR had awarded Artur Agiton with the badge "For Active Work."
In excellent condition. The cover is completely clean, the bronze paint of the lettering has lost about half of its original luster but is still present and intact. Inside, tiny spots of foxing are evident but not intrusive to the eye due to their microscopic size. The printed and handwritten text and the stamp of the DOSAAF of the Ukrainian SSR are clear and legible.
The DOSAAF organization was formerly known as the OSOAVIAKhIM, which changed its name and charter in 1951. This "volunteer society" was essentially a massive military training program, and although it collected dues from its members (most of whom had no choice but to join), it was sponsored and tightly controlled by the state. The Badge for Active Work was established in 1952 as the highest award of the organization, essentially a medal for outstanding achievements.
