Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class, Type 2 "Starback" variation (Krasnokamsk Mint), #142438, circa mid-1944 issue.

In silver, 14 K gold (hammer and sickle emblem), enamels. Measures 47.1 mm in height, 44.6 mm in width; weighs 25.5 g without the screw plate. This specimen is from the third series of the Krasnokamsk Mint "Starbacks" with mint mark in the lower portion of the reverse. Features arched mint mark and very pronounced star-shaped relief to the reverse. It is a relatively uncommon version: according to, its currently known serial number range is 135322 through 169988 (approximately 35000 total). Note a small maker mark "7" stamped on the reverse near the edge at approx. 8 o'clock position.

In very fine to excellent condition. The enamel fully retains its beautiful original luster and appears practically perfect to the unaided eye. The only sign of wear is a couple of miniscule flakes near the tip of the top arm of the star, almost unnoticeable without magnification. The golden hammer & sickle emblem has some scratches and scuffs to the head of the hammer and handle of the sickle, but the wear is practically unnoticeable to the naked eye. The hammer is slightly bent (we wouldn't recommend trying to straighten it out, as the flaw is not nearly significant enough to make it visually detractive.)

The silver rays are nice and crisp, have only microscopic contact marks, and exhibit beautiful dark patina; there is matching untouched patina to silver on the reverse. The screw post is nearly 14 mm long, has not been shortened, and comes with original silver screw plate.
