Navy enlisted man or NCO belt, late 1930s - early 1940s.
In dark brown leather with a brass buckle, variation with small star centered inside the anchor stock. Better overall quality and different connection bar than on the later belts of this type. The buckle is 73 x 50 mm (nearly 3" x 2"), slightly longer than the later model. One size fits all, fully adjustable up to 44" waist.
The belt is in very good condition. The brass belt plate in particular is free of significant oxidation and shows only minimal wear; its details are nicely preserved. The leather is still soft and supple, free of tears albeit showing scuffs from normal wear. No date or maker mark, but the size and nearly flat form of the buckle differs from later types. A Navy belt of this vintage is very difficult to find, especially in decent condition!
