Medal of People's Architect of the USSR, 1985-1991.

In gilded tombak and lacquer. The pendant measures 24.8 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 22.9 mm in width; weighs 6.8 g without suspension and connecting link; overall weight with suspension is 12.7 g. Raised late type circular logo of the Moscow Mint to the reverse of the medallion.

The medal is in excellent, near mint condition. The lacquer finish on the obverse is pristine. The stippling on the reverse is likewise perfect. The pin attachment is completely intact and fully functional. The ribbon is old but immaculately clean. The connecting link is original and hasn't been cut.

The title of People's Architect of the USSR was established by a Supreme Soviet decree in 1967, later than some other similar highest degrees of recognition such as People's Medical Doctor, Artist, and Performance Artist. The medal was introduced in 1985 and at that point, probably back- issued to most surviving holders of the title. Due to the relatively limited number of people working in this profession, the title of People's Architect was awarded far more sparingly than many others, and as a result, The Architect's medal is harder to find than most of the others.
