Brass, enamels, lacquer; measures 33.5 mm in height incl. eyelet, 30.0 mm in width. Shows late-style circular mint mark of the Moscow Mint on the suspension device. Excellent, near mint condition.

This medal - or rather an award badge according to official Soviet hierarchy of awards - is a bit of a mystery. It is certainly an official issue, not a fantasy piece or souvenir item - unlike many other "KGB" medals and badges that sprung up soon after the collapse of the Soviet Union. We've encountered it a couple of times in the past in award groups to KGB officers, although the criteria for being awarded with it are still unknown as of now.
