WW1 Commemorative Jetton with portraits of Nicholas II and leaders of three principal allied nations, by Kuchkin Factory, 1916.
In brass; measures 35.8 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 27.1 mm in width; weighs 7. 2 g. The obverse shows very detailed bas-relief portrait of Nicholas II in full dress uniform with full chest of decorations. "His Imperial Majesty Emperor Nicholas II". The reverse features portraits of the leaders of three other principal allies of Russia at the time: British King George V, French President Raymond Poincaré, and King of Italy Victor Emmanuel III. The names of the wartime leaders are stated under the portraits. The top of the jetton has raised inscription "In Memory of the Great War, 1914 - 1916". Note that not all the letters in the top line of the writing is not entirely defined: this is a factory flaw, not a result of wear to the jetton. The lower right edge shows inscription "Kuchkin Factory, Moscow."
The jeton is in outstanding, excellent condition. The details are exceptionally well-preserved and crisp of both sides, nearly pristine. There are some minor scuffs on the background to the left of the Nicholas II's bas-relief, but they do not affect the portrait itself. Aside from a single tiny blemish near the portrait of Poincaré, the toning to the brass is perfectly even. A great amount of the original mint luster remains in recessed areas on both the obverse and reverse. Overall, this is an uncommon piece in uncommonly nice condition!
