Russian February Revolution Jetton in bronze, 1917.
In brass ("light bronze"), 26.3 mm wide. The obverse shows a female figure representing Russia with an army soldier and peasant amidst the broken chains and flying double-headed eagle that is missing its crown. There is an inscription "Freedom, Equality and Fraternity" - a refrain borrowed from the French Revolution. The same motto is on the reverse.
The jetton is in excellent condition, a real standout among the jettons of the Provisional Government era. There are almost none of the usual dings and scratches; the artwork and lettering are exceptionally well preserved, practically pristine, on both sides. The gilt finish is likewise extremely well preserved and bright, with only a couple of very small blemishes. There are no bumps, dents or any other noticeable flaws.
