Badge of the Central Committee of ODVF (Society of Friends of the Air Fleet), 1923-1925.
Brass, enamel; measures 28.3 mm tall at the flagpole, 29.0 mm wide. Features inscription 'CCCP 14/VII' on the sun and letters ОДВФ ("ODVF") on top. The date of August 17 is the Bastille Day and also the official date of the formation of ODVF Society deliberately set to symbolize the "start of the aerial revolution". Note that the enamel completely covers the aircraft, a standard feature of this particular badge.
In fine to very fine condition. There is a single small chip to the upper left corner of the flag, not very noticeable. The enamel is well preserved otherwise having only a few tiny flakes and scratches, still attractive and sound overall. The blue enamel covering the lettering on the sun is intact. Some of the original silver finish is visible in recessed areas on the reverse. The screw post is original and full length - over 9 mm long - although it has been re-threaded to accommodate the screw plate which is of much later vintage.
This badge is much harder to find than some of the others in the ODVF series - especially in decent condition. /See "Avers 8", fig. 1413.b/
