Combat Pencil series, #36: "Combat Friendship", poster illustrates the story of a crash-landed bomber crew, circa 1942.
A daring rescue of one's comrades from behind enemy lines!

Approximately 24"x16", artwork by I. Ostapov and Yu. Petrov. Four panels and text tell the heroic story. Published by the Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists.

Excellent condition. One small rubber stamp mark on the lower right hand corner does not interfere with either the artwork or the text.

The airplane of battalion commissar Nezhdanov attacked enemy ground targets and destroyed 5 tanks. In doing so, it was hit by enemy flak and was forced to crash land behind the German lines. The crew torched their wrecked airplane and prepared to die fighting, but eventually they were rescued because the other pilots of their unit kept strafing the enemy troops. While their fire kept the Germans from approaching the grounded airmen, another airplane piloted by a Lieutenant Struev executed a daring landing nearby and rescued the entire crew.

A fine example of storytelling with pictures! Clear graphics make this a poster that would display nicely in many different rooms in a collector's home.
