Screwback Lapel Pin with Stalin's portrait printed on a small mirror, C 1920s/1930s.
17.6mm in diameter.

17.6mm in diameter, 3.2mm thick. Relatively early portrait of Stalin printed on a mirror within in a silver- or chrome-plated screwback brass frame. Complete with unmarked nut that is probably original to the badge.

Very Fine condition. Glass covering over mirror shows minor scratching, silver plating shows wear. There has been some "aligatoring" of the mirrored surface inside but it has not affected the details of his face.

Typical example of popular mass-produced souvenirs designed to maintain Stalin's status as a Bolshevik demi-god. The image of Stalin is particularly striking. Even now this unusual badge grabs your attention: when light reflects off of the mirror, you feel compelled to look at it - and when you do, you find Comrade Stalin staring back at you!
