The inside of the lid is lined in champagne-colored silk and shows a handwritten inscription in Russian, reading "3 October 1977, Elektrokohle Factory, Berlin."

The box is in excellent condition, showing just minimal scuffs to the laminate at some of the corners and edges, not very obvious and not detractive. The box is structurally sound, the halves match perfectly when closed, the steel hinge is tight and strong.

The former VEB Elektrokohle Lichtenberg in East Berlin was a major GDR factory complex manufacturing electrical components. After the reunification of Germany, it was closed; its territory, the soil of which was heavily contaminated, was completely paved with concrete, and then re-developed.
