Brass gilt, enamels; the medallion measures 35.1 mm wide and weighs 19.5 g. The inscription encircling the obverse reads "For Faithful Service, DDR National People's Army". The inscription around the Est Germany state emblem on the reverse reads "For Protection of the Workers' and Peasants' Power." The original presentation box has black plastic bottom lined with light foam rubber inside, the lid is in Plexiglas.
The medal is in excellent condition, showing just slight wear to the mint luster on the reverse. Both pin attachments are clean and functional. The lid of the box is ligh

The medal (original name "Medaille für treue Dienste in der Nationalen Volksarmee") was instituted on 1 June 1956 in four grades: bronze for 5 years of service, silver for 10 years, gold for 15, and gold with colored flag and Roman numerals "XX" on the suspension and ribbon bar for 20 years of service. It was presented to members of the NVA and Stasi, as well as individuals who actively supported the NVA and Stasi.
