The certificate was issued on 22 February 1962 and initially had an entry for the 2nd cl. Long Service Medal bestowed on 17 January 1962. Kosarev's rank at the time was technical service major. The document is signed by Major General Pavlov, Commander of the Military Unit #11326 where the recipient was serving at the time, and shows the unit stamp. As was standard procedure, the next higher service award - i.e. the 1st class medal - was added to the document later when the recipient became eligible for it five years later, on 18 January 1967. There is no entry or stamp mentioning the unit for the latter entry.

The document is in excellent condition, perfectly clean and crisp. It shows practically no wear, only a storage age.

Although the unit that issued the document is referred only by its code number 11326, various Internet sources show that it was the 128th Guards Motorized Rifle Division, a very distinguished unit of WW2 fame that was originally a mountain rifle division. During the 60s, the division was stationed in western Ukraine and was a part of the Transcarpathian Military District. In 1968, it played an active role in the Warsaw Pact's Operation Danube (the invasion of Czechoslovakia and suppression of the "Prague Spring"). It is very likely that the recipient of the document, a cadre officer of the unit, also took part in this infamous campaign.
