Medal for Combat Service, Type 2, Variation 1, #500378, circa mid- to late 1943 issue.
Silver, lacquer; measures 37.0 mm in height incl. eyelet, 32.2 mm in width; weighs 17.3 g not including the suspension and connecting link. This early version of the Type 2 features a slightly curved down hilt of the saber.
Very fine to excellent condition. Unlike most other WW2 issues and especially relatively early ones, the lacquer in the letters is almost completely intact, having only a couple of tiny chips that are practically unnoticeable to the naked eye. There is a modest amount of wear to the high points of the artwork and lettering, but the details are still nicel

There is a modest amount of wear to the high points of the artwork and lettering, but the details are still nicely defined. The medallion has a few dings to the edge but is completely free of bumps, nicks or significant scratches. Very attractive patina to silver throughout.
Comes on an original WW2 suspension, a two-layer model in steel with a self-locking pin. The old, possibly original ribbon shows wear at the
edges and a minor amount of soiling but is still sound and presentable, adding a lot of character to the medal. The connecting link has been cut
but appears to be of the period. Overall, a very attractive early Type 2 piece.
