The obverse features a pre-printed government postal stamp of uncommon design and a special postal stamp commemorating the Soyuz TM-11 mission which launched on 2 December 1990, and carried the first Japanese person, journalist Toyohiro Akiyama who stayed for a week on the Soviet Mir space station, broadcasting live from space for TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System).
