The size is continental 6" x 4", unmailable without a cover, published by the Visual Arts Publishing House, Moscow, circulation 155,000. The artist's name, P. Pavlinov, is printed at the bottom on the verso. The postcard is part of a set or series about world-famous seafarers and explorers. The artwork is an offset print of Pavlinov's watercolor, illustrating Barentsz' third and last Arctic expedition in search of a Northeast passage. In that voyage, Barentsz discovered the islands Spitsbergen and Bear Island, but not the Northeast passage, and did not survive the return trip. His wood

Willem Barentsz (anglicized as Barents or Barentz) was a 16th century Dutch navigator, cartographer and Arctic explorer. One of his major discoveries bears his name, the Barents Sea.
